After the nine months it has taken for you to grow your baby, it takes time to 'reclaim' your body. For all mothers and babies this is a period of great adjustment and in the yogic traditions the first 12 weeks or so is referred to as the fourth trimester...and for good reason! An early gentle approach that focuses on closing the body, stabilising the pelvis, toning the pelvic floor, re-aligning the spine and reconnecting with the abdominals helps you to feel strong and steady in this time of enormous change and transformation. If you nurture yourself properly through the fourth trimester you will reap the benefits and feel energised. If you push too hard in the early weeks you can end up depleting your precious energy reserves. It pays to be patient! You can start the classes when you are ready and Lon may suggest certain practices to do at home to help the postnatal recovery. As the weeks go by and your energy levels build, the practices will get stronger to reflect that.
