Antenatal Preparation & Birth Doula

Preparing for the arrival of your baby is an exciting time & every mother and father deserve as much support as they can get.  It can also be overwhelming and daunting dealing with the multitude of choices you are faced with at this time.

As your birth doula, I make at least two antenatal visits to explore your expectations for the birth and help answer questions that you may have.I can share tips of how to find your way through the labyrinth of labour and birth so that you can embrace the experience with confidence.   I encourage you to write your birth preferences but at the same time remain totally open to the magical rhythm of your labour and birth.

I am on-call for 24 during your due month & will be with you throughout your birth whether at home or in the hospital, however long it takes. I follow up with a postnatal visit at home to make sure all is well with you and your baby.

I've supported a diversity of births - all extremely beautiful in their own way.  I use my skills as yoga teacher and massage therapist when necessary and appropriate.

'I couldn't have chosen a better doula than Lon, who was an amazing support to me before, during and after the birth of my daughter.  As a nervous first-time mum, I found her antenatal sessions particularly helpful and reassuring.  To know that she would be with me at the birth was a huge comfort and provided the continuity of care that overstretched midwives aren't always able to.  We had developed a birth preferences sheet beforehand and Lon helped to ensure that this was followed as much as possible when my labour began.  I was blessed with a natural (and, for a first-time mum - quite speedy) birth and it was wonderful to have Lon there throughout. She has also provided fantastic post-natal support, not just in the scheduled sessions, but by various emails and phone conversations.  It really helps to know that she's just at the end of the phone (or email) if I need her.  I feel very lucky to have found Lon and would fully recommend her to any mother to be who is looking for the support of a doula.'  'My labour ended up being very different to what I had planned: I wanted an active waterbirth but instead I was induced at 38 weeks because I had OC and spent most of my labour unable to move and strapped to two monitors and a drip.  Being induced was my worst nightmare and I was very apprehensive about it. It wasn't ideal but it would have been a whole lot worse if Lon hadn't been there to reassure me and talk me through the different options available to me before hand.  I only had a few days to get my head round the fact that I was going to be induced and have my baby.  I was quite shocked and panicked at the beginning but by the time the day came I was ready thanks to the many chats I had with Lon.'
